Back in November 2014 I wrote this blog post about How to use Facebook to promote your business. You can read the full article here.

The only problem is Facebook keeps changing! Some of the rules that applied last year have changed. In this updated post, I’ll address what remains the same and what has changed.

  1. Create a Facebook Business page

A business Facebook page is still essential when it comes to doing business on Facebook. In fact, more people than ever now use Facebook to search for local businesses. The only issue with this, is that you will need to pay for all of your audience and likers to see your content. Organic reach has hit an all time low at around 10%, which is fine if you have 10,000 likes but not if you have 100.

When people come across your business it’s suggested around 70% of these people then go on to Facebook to check your business out. If there is nothing there, guess what? They are likely to move on to the next company that does what you do.

Join Facebook Groups
Facebook Groups are still a really good way for you to reach out and find new customers and clients. To begin with, ensure the group you are joining is relevant to your business. For instance, if you run a local travel agency, then a Facebook group about traveling (e.g. Travel writer’s groups) would be a good group to join.

In addition, you should also look for groups in your local community. These may be mum and bub pages, community garage sales, fitness, local networking etc.  Facebook doesn’t have a limit to how many groups you can join. However, if you begin spamming those pages with your content, you can get banned from the group.

Before you post something ask yourself is this information helping someone or am I selling? Most groups will have a day where people promote their services and products, however it’s better to build a relationship with members before you start spamming the group.

Advertise on Facebook

I’ve heard so many people say ‘It’s scandalous that you have to pay’and that ‘Facebook are trying to just get us to spend money.’ Guess what? Facebook is not a charity! If you update something on your website, do you expect to immediately find yourself on page one of Google?

The great thing is that Facebook Advertising and Promotions are cost effective and you’re able to reach a very targeted audience.
Advertising on Facebook doesn’t have to be expensive and you can use budgets of $2 a day to get started and see what works.

Setting up  Facebook Ads for your business is not difficult. However, you do need to know the basics and have some level of comprehension as to how it all works. At Puzzle Media we do offer Facebook training and LinkedIn Training for those who know what they are doing, but want to take it to the next level.
