Does anyone here follow Marie Forleo? For those that follow her, then you understand how amazing the woman is. For those of you that don’t, check her out. She may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but she has built a multi million dollar empire from being authentic, driven and motivated.

The reason I’m bringing up Marie is that this morning I watched one of her Marie TV episodes, which was an interview with Elizabeth Gilbert, the author of Eat, Pray, Love.  A book that has sold over 10 million copies worldwide. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I watched the interview, but can honestly say I was blown away.

Let me take a step back here.

The thing that makes Marie Forleo, Marie Forleo is her passion, authenticity and honesty. She doesn’t tell you that building a business is easy, neither does she provide false hopes for those going through her B-School program. Jump back to today’s interview and Elizabeth Gilbert is preaching from the same hymn sheet.

There were so many takeaways, that I will need to watch it again and take notes. The biggest aha moments were:

  • Progress over perfection
  • Fear is to be embraced
  • Perfection is a serial killer
  • Inspiration doesn’t make any promises or any guarantees, but if you let it, it will keep coming

As someone who is running a business and in the process of launching a new online product I needed to hear everything Elizabeth said today and I encourage you to do the same. See the thing is, I am VERY creative. I love creating new strategies for clients, creating content, creating social media posts and creating better ways of doing things. However when it comes to my own business, I am a perfectionist. I’m slowly learning not to be and understand that progress is better than perfection, because progress means you have moved from where you were yesterday. The perfection will come, but whilst I’m in ‘creating’ stage, progress is more important.

When it comes to reviewing your own business

Ask yourself the following questions :

  • Have you ever held off on making a decision because you didn’t have all of the information?
  • Do you have half completed projects, products or services that you would like to launch?
  • Would you like to get your website 100% updated and ready before you begin promoting your services?
  • Could your business be in a more profitable state, had you gone ahead with any of the above?

Procrastination is the biggest business killer. It’s time to take action and roll with the punches. Your idea may not work, but would it not be better to try and fail rather than fail to try?

Food for thought.
